I work for a British company and was recently involved in the hiring process for many key positions. We were successful and got some of the most remarkable African graduates. I’ve compiled why we chose our candidates and shared them with you here. African graduates can get online remote work in a variety of Western countries. Simply do the following:
Identify Valuable Skills
Determine your skills and strengths that are in demand in the online job market, which could include, among other things, programming, graphic design, writing, marketing, translation, virtual help, or data analysis.
Pay attention to developing these talents further by studying independently, enrolling in online classes, or obtaining a certification. Taking it upon yourself to go above and beyond your regular studies is the best way to display initiative, as nothing compares to this.
Build An Online Presence
- Make a business presence online to show off your skills and knowledge.
- Create a resume or curriculum vitae (CV) showing your skills, work experience, and accomplishments.
- Make pages on professional networking sites like LinkedIn, including links to your portfolio or work samples.
- Write mini blogs and articles on things that interest you and share them on sites like Linkedin.
Network And Ask For Referrals
Use your current connections and network to look for jobs. Reach out to friends, family, and former classmates who may know people in other countries or work for companies with online jobs.
You can meet people already working where you want to work at industry conferences, webinars, or online events.
Freelancing Platforms
Sign up for reliable freelancing platforms like Upwork, Fiverr, Guru, or Freelancer. These sites put freelancers in touch with clients all over the world. Make an exciting profile that shows off your skills and your past work. Bid on projects that are important to you and do a great job. At the earlier stage of your career, getting glowing reviews is the most important way to build your reputation.
Online Job Boards
Research job boards that focus on remote working roles you can do from home or abroad. There are sections for remote jobs on sites like Remote OK, FlexJobs, WeWorkRemotely, and Indeed. Use the location filter to find jobs outside of Africa.
Websites For Online Jobs
A number of websites are all about working from home. Platforms like Remote.co, Remote OK, Remote Year, and Virtual Vocations collect job listings for people who want to work from home. Read my blog, The Best Remote Jobs Worldwide.
International Companies
- Look into global companies that have offices in different countries or offer remote jobs.
- Visit their websites, look through the “Careers” section, and apply for jobs directly.
- Focus on how well you can work remotely and connect with people in different places.
Online Communities For Freelancing
Join online groups or sites for freelancers and people who work from home. Platforms like Reddit, Slack groups, and Facebook clubs can help you learn new things, find new jobs, and meet new people.
Online Teaching or Tutoring
Think about chances to teach or tutor online. Platforms like VIPKid, iTutorGroup, and Preply bring together teachers and students from all over the world. If you are good at a particular subject, language, or set of skills, you can use these tools to teach or help others.
Professional Growth
Keep your skills and information up-to-date to stay competitive in the job market. Take online classes, join webinars, or try to get certifications in your area. A growth mindset shows that you want to get better at your job and increases your chances of getting a good remote job.
