As with every post, I do a bit of research before writing. Today’s post is about work-from-home ideas that can bring in more income. I have not done them all. I will start with the income I have tried, tested and won.
A common Nigerian saying, “There are many ways to the market,” means there are many ways to make money, and you shouldn’t depend on just one.
I’ve read blogs with lists of 80 ways to make money. I’ve tried some of these hustles. But some are way out of my league. I’ll put them here because everyone has different sets of skills. Even though I haven’t tried them, you might like this.

Marketing
Start A Blog
I’ve always wanted to start a blog on something I’m passionate about. I enjoy helping others and sharing my financial knowledge. Blogging can earn money through affiliate marketing, advertising banners, selling physical or digital products and making guest blog posts. Blogging is an act of love. It takes time to establish your blog to the point where it is profitable. Love what you blog about, create exciting and well-researched content, and put yourself into your writing. This is what will set you apart from the competition. Just keep continuing and posting regularly. Be patient, and establish your community. Discover and address their problems. The money will start to flow soon. Don’t concern yourself with thoughts like “how many blog posts” I write before I make money or how to organise blog posts. What matters most is getting your content out there and solving problems with your helpful post.
Post Youtube Videos
Putting videos on YouTube is a lot like writing a blog. You make money the same as with blogs. You will have to work hard at first. Putting your whole heart into making videos and editing them. You might get 10 views but no new subscribers, which could make you feel down. Don’t stop trying. Choose a topic that interests you, hit record, and then upload. You’ll get better as time goes on. Practice does help you get better. Go back and watch the first videos of your favourite YouTubers, and you’ll see they got better as time passed.
Selling
Amazon FBA
I have an Amazon store. Amazon will ship merchandise to customers on my behalf. They charge a fee for this service. It is usually called “Fulfilled by Amazon” (FBA). It is relatively simple to learn.
The following are the keys to success:
- Sell products desired by customers.
- Make appealing consumer-friendly listings.
- Stay and establish yourself in one category.
- Check your performance metrics and improve.
- Take action on customer feedback.
- Give clear product descriptions.
- Create a database of 1000 raving fans.
- Create fantastic articles for your raving fan regarding your products.

Amazon Retail Arbitrage
Retail arbitrage is when someone buys an item at a lower price in a store or online and then sells it online for more money. For example, you could buy a heavily discounted microwave oven at your local Sainsbury’s and then sell it on Amazon for more money.
Retail arbitrage is a popular way to start an Amazon business. It’s how I started selling on Amazon.
It is low-cost and low-risk, but it necessitates diligent product scouting. This is not a passive source of income.
Sell on eBay
This strategy appeals to me since it allows me to accomplish two goals at once:
- I’m getting rid of all the clutter by selling my old possessions.
- I can make money from it all.
Somebody else may find great value in what you consider useless junk.
Try this out if you have many items but are low on cash.
Buy Charity Shops Goods To Sell
This strategy will serve you well if you have a talent for recognising high-quality goods. Seek out charity shops in wealthy neighbourhoods and stock up on items to resell. The number of valuable antique individuals give away will amaze you. Buying from these stores and then selling on online marketplaces like eBay will make you a decent profit.
Multi-level Marketing
I have done this gig. I sold forever-living products. Not my kind of gig. I have left it here because I know people who swear that they make a fortune from this pyramid kind of selling. I haven’t made a dime; I wouldn’t lie. I would love to hear from you; tell me in the comments about your experience in Multi-level marketing selling.
Import & Export
I have done this several times. The 1st time, I bought children’s clothes in the EU and sent them to Nigeria for resale. The challenge is getting your money back from the people selling on your behalf. Best if selling to a business (B2B) and collect your cash before delivery.
Rent Your Spare Room
My two girls and I share a two-bedroom apartment. During my financial meltdown, I slept on the living room floor and gave up my room to a lodger. It was a tremendous assistance in getting me out of debt, but it was difficult. If you have an extra room that isn’t being used, you should think about this option. Look for a suitable lodger. I’d heard that Japanese students made fantastic lodgers, so I had my ad translated into Japanese and was able to attract the most lovely young lady. She was with me for a long time. You can rent various items, including your underused garage and assigned parking spaces. When I’m not using my camera, I rent it out. The list goes on and on. Consider anything you don’t use that could earn you money.
Office Type Roles
Virtual Assistant
A virtual assistant is a self-employed worker specialising in offering administrative services to busy professionals and entrepreneurs. They work from a remote location, usually a home office. Typical tasks a virtual assistant might perform include scheduling appointments, making phone calls, making travel arrangements, organising task lists, updating calendars, and managing email accounts. All you need to be successful is excellent organisational skills, a computer, and a great internet connection. Find your next gig here and here.
Tutor English
My daughter lives in France and tutors french kids. The payoff is more than money for her. It’s helping a child fulfil a great ambition of becoming bi-lingual. She charges between 20 to 40 Euros a session. A session is an hour. Torturing can be in any field. Tutoring a child preparing for their SATs or GCSE is very rewarding and popular. It can also be made into an online course. This site can help.
Bookkeeping
Bookkeepers are not required to hold any formal qualifications. You can do the role using your secondary school bookkeeping studies. The process is simple and quick if you obtain the qualification. The beautiful thing about bookkeeping is that you can work from anywhere, anytime. Social Media Management
Being a social media manager is excellent if you like to post and make content. many business owners know how important it is to show off their company on social media sites, but they don’t have the time or creativity to do so. If you are a social butterfly who likes to post beautiful pictures on Instagram or funny videos on TikTok, why not make money from your hobby? Where will I be without sites like fiverr.com? I go to Fiverr for all my graphic needs, digital marketing, writing and translation. There is an army of side hustlers like me. We rely on these awesome humans on sites like Fiverr and others. Check out what services you can offer here or here.
Wig Making
Making wigs is a profitable business, mainly if you master your craft. One wig costs between £150 and £700 to make. I was able to master this art for my use thanks to YouTube. I created good-quality wigs for my friends. I choose not to do this as a career because it is time-consuming and not something I am particularly interested in. However, it is something that anyone can quickly learn and master within a month. With a few well-posted Instagram and Facebook photographs, you can make money fast and from the comfort of your own home. Watch this tutorial:
Create & Sell Printables
This market is relatively new and growing. This is especially so with more emphasis on online learning and the financial freedom movement (FIRE). There is a demand for print worksheets and tools to help plan and organise their lives. The beauty of printables is the little or no initial investment requirement. All you need is some creativity and an understanding of people’s needs. Canva is software I love and use. The free version can create printables for sale. You will need a computer, tablet or perhaps a phone. (I have always used computers only)
Create & Sell Online Courses
Putting together practical and helpful online courses is a great way to make money. This sector is thought to be the one that is growing the fastest. We’ve moved things online because of the pandemic, but even when the lockdowns are over, it’s unlikely that the world will return to how it was.
It is thought that we would learn in person 50% of the time and online 50% of the time. This shouldn’t be a surprise. It is easy and inexpensive to learn online.
If you make a course once and sell it repeatedly, you can make a lot of money.
Fitness Trainer
It is simple to become a Zumba instructor, and it also keeps you fit. You don’t need a lot of equipment and can provide your services online. I’m a certified Zumba instructor. The certification can be earned in a single day. I’m sure you don’t need one to practise, but it’s a good idea to have one just in case. It’s a terrific way to meet and connect with new people. You can make internet videos and charge clients a fee to watch them.
Social Media Influencers
I have never made money off my social media platforms. I am not the biggest fan because It creates anxiety in me. (I am working on it)
However, I have close friends that make a fortune on social networking networks. I’m talking about life-changing sums of money for simply holding up a sponsored product.
The following are some of the things they have done to achieve success:
- They have a large number of active and engaged followers.
- They post frequently.
- They work with brands and get paid for sponsored posts.
- They sell things via affiliate links.
- They sell their own branded items through their e-commerce stores.
Home Bakery Business
I’m not a baker. But one of my friends is. She’s crushing it. This appeals to me since you can begin with a modest home bakery and gradually expand. My opinion of what makes my friend so successful is her creativity. She enjoys baking images of celebrities. She films herself creating her one-of-a-kind work of art and posts it to Instagram. Her masterpieces are not only visually appealing but also wonderful to taste.
